What we're doing

Sustainability at Aspect Hotel Park West

We want to do everything we can to limit our impact on the environment. We aim to continue to improve where we can to reduce our carbon footprint. Below are the current initiatives we are putting into practice here from the general running of our building to the daily maintenance and operations within the hotel.

Green tourism

We have been awarded Gold status by Green Tourism in 2024.

Green Tourism encourages businesses and organisations to operate in more sustainable ways. Including, reducing energy waste, saving water, and promoting a smart and sustainable outlook throughout the hotel.

Our carbon Footprint

We are thrilled to have recived a GOLD rating by Green Tourism in 2024, our hotel is proud to offer a low carbon footprint of just 1.32kg CO2-e per guest night. With sustainability woven into the very fabric of our operations, we invite our guests to join us in making a positive impact on the environment. Together, we can make every stay a step towards a greener tomorrow.

Carbon Footprint Benchmark

When we talk about our carbon footprint, we’re referring to the greenhouse gases (GHGs) produced by our everyday actions that contribute to climate change. The most common gas we think of is carbon dioxide (CO2), but there are others, like methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and some gases made in factories. To understand how these gases impact the environment, we use a measure called CO2-e, which helps us compare their effects on global warming. This is done by looking at how much one type of gas warms the planet compared to carbon dioxide. For instance, if we release one million metric tonnes of methane, it has the same warming effect as releasing 28 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide. This makes it clear how important it is to reduce all types of greenhouse gas emissions for a healthier planet.

Our Surroundings

Park West Business Campus boasts beautifully maintained grounds, thoughtful planting and a natural border with the historic Grand Canal make Park West one of the most attractive locations in the city. The Green Route, an 8.5km pedestrian and cycle path, offers an alternative mode of transport for commuters and leisure users. Fishing points, boating and berthing areas and seats encourage access to the Grand Canal, and information signage dots the route, outlining the history and details of the flora and fauna. Park West has installed bat roosting boxes and created underground holts to provide shelter and breeding opportunities for otters!

Our Building

We have double-glazed windows throughout. All the lighting in the hotel is LED, both in-house and throughout the carpark. The carpark lighting system is controlled by a censor to minimise use at all times. We operate a key card electrical system in the hotel, so energy is only used when the key is in place and the room is occupied. We also use a manual heating system which must be activated by our guests, therefore only used when required.

Transportation

We promote the use of Bikes with the Bike to Work Scheme & also promote Public transport for all our guests. The hotel is situated only 2min walk from both Train, Bus & Luas terminals into the city centre. Park West Business Campus operates a paid bike and e-bike system for those who need to get from A to B without using taxi or public transport, located directly across from the hotel entrance.

E-chargers are available in the business park for those with electric cars.

Charity and the community

We work with local partnerships on behalf of the community which helps enhance the social and economic development of the area and thereby increase education & employment. We also offer a work experience programme with Secondary Schools in the area, we continue to work with the students after work experience offering employment where possible. We offer preferential accommodation rates to local hospitals, and we also work closely with and support Aoibheann’s Pink Tie & Beyond the Moon charities.

Hotel Operations

We use a waste management company that focuses on reducing our landfill and increasing our recycling. This is closely monitored and all departments in the hotel are involved in this initiative. We have compost bins, cardboard bailing & glass bins in place as part of our waste management program. We have removed all notepads from meeting rooms & Bedrooms. We use compostable cups for all take away coffees, we have removed all single use plastics throughout the hotel from straws to stirrers, plates, cutlery and have opted for a more sustainable option.

Hotel Cleaning

We use Ecolab Chemicals throughout the hotel, they pride themselves on using industry best practices to develop innovative solutions to support customers’ business and sustainability goals while helping protect the environment and promoting human health. All our chemicals throughout the hotel are on automatic dosing systems, therefore only the exact amount of chemical is used at all times, our bottles are re-usable and re-fillable.
The hotel has reduced the amount of water being used throughout by sourcing effective cleaning chemicals that can be as effective with cold water, we’ve adjusted shower head flows whilst not compromising customer satisfaction but focusing on decreasing water consumption. Water temperatures are also closely monitored to ensure energy is not being wasted.
Our bathroom guest supplies are wall mounted and re-fillable, we limit all single use plastic products and only source sustainable packaging where possible.
We work closely with our preferred linen supplier ensuring they are also doing their best for the environment, they operate a Smart Water Reduction System along with Steam and Heat Recover Systems throughout their plants and have full ISO: 14001, Environmental Management Systems, EN 14065, Risk Analysis and Bio-contamination Control Systems and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems. ISO 14001 accreditation.
