Dublin is a city made for sightseeing on foot, which can be difficult during the wetter months. Summer is an ideal time to visit our fair city enjoying the sun shining on the beautiful Georgian architecture, the busy summer markets and locals making the most of the bright days in our city parks and along the coast. Discover for yourself the culture and history of Dublin City, hop on a Dart to the coast or soak up the sun in Europe’s largest walled park. Book your stay in Aspect Hotel Park West on the edge of the city and enjoy excellent transport links, great value accommodation and a very warm welcome.
Summer by the Sea
Dublin is a versatile city break, especially when the sun is shining. Go from world-class shopping and historic buildings in the city centre to cliff walks and promenades along the coast – which is less than 30-minutes by train. On Dublin’s East side, you can take a dip in the chilly waters of Dun Laoghaire and Sandymount or dive in head first to the deep waters of the Forty Foot bathing point. Take a stroll from the seaside town of Bray, compete with amusements and fairground rides, to the affluent suburb of Greystones, where you’ll find some of the best brunch spots in the city. The south side has the craggy headland of Howth and a bracing walk up to Howth Head. Wherever you end up there will be ample opportunity to stop for fresh chips and ice cream.
Phoenix Park
Did you know that Dublin was home to the largest walled park in Europe? One of the people’s most treasured spaces on a sunny day, Phoenix Park is more than just a green space. The park is home to gardens, playgrounds, monuments and so much more. You can visit Farmleigh, a historic house holding important collections, an art gallery, a working farm, and the official Irish State guest house. Dublin Zoo is great on a summer day, visiting species from across the world and watching them basking in the sunshine. The President of Ireland also lives in the park in Aras an Uachtarain and if you’re lucky you might see him walk his two beautiful Bernese mountain dogs. The Phoenix Park is a place where young and old are welcome to make their own.
Picnics in the City
Oasis of green dot the city centre and during the summer, locals make the very most of the green space using them to sunbathe, exercise, catch up with friends and picnic. Enjoy St. Stephen’s Green Park, located at the top of Grafton Street where you can enjoy the manicured flowerbeds while music rings out from the Victorian bandstand over the summer. Across the road, Dublin’s secret garden, Iveagh Gardens are a quieter, more refined place to enjoy dining al fresco from one of the many cafes and restaurants on Leeson/Baggot Streets.
Walks in Dublin
We love to get out and enjoy the great outdoors during summer, taking advantage of the warm weather and the longer days. Enjoy some of Dublin’s finest walks on the outskirts of the city including Killiney Hill with stunning coastal views or venturing to one of Dublin Bay’s iconic lighthouses along the coast roads to either Poolbeg or Bull Island. The Dublin Mountains are great for walking and hiking with many trails suitable for everyone from beginners to advanced trekkers. The Howth to Dun Laoghaire is a long trek down the entire coastline of Dublin and is suitable for all skill sets – anyone who has the stamina for a long walk!
